Who We Are & What We Do
Kumpania Paramicha is a new gypsy guild in Southern California that is based loosely on Romani traditions and beliefs. We are still in the building stages, and are not planning on working a faire until sometime around spring or summer 2008.
We play with patrons as well as participants. As part of the faire, it is our job to make the customers smile and feel welcome. Street skits and improv are a wonderful way to do this, pulling the patrons into whatever mischief we may be creating. Also, many of us are previous renaissance faire employees (as boothies, members of other guilds, etc) and/or committed theatre students. However, whether we have experience or not, that does not affect our dedication to our guild family
The Kumpania is a rag-tag clan of people simply trying to survive life on the road. We can dance, sing, play instruments, tell stories, read palms, juggle - whatever strikes your fancy, as long as it can be kept fairly clean. Our characters are known as the liars, cheaters, and thieves of the shire, creating trouble wherever we go.
Looking for a way to become a part of faire?
We are looking for guild members - jugglers, fortune tellers, dancers, musicians, actors, storytellers, etc - to join us at renaissance faires in and around the L.A. and Orange County areas.
What you need:
- A character with a history. Does not necessarily have to be of Romani blood, seeing as the guildmaster - myself - has one of Irish descent. Romani clans were known for picking up stragglers - especially children. We are merely travelers.
- Faire garb that works with the guild and your character.
- A good attitude and a sense of humor.
- I DO NOT REQUIRE EXPERIENCE WORKING WITH RENAISSANCE FAIRES. We are here to help each other out, and I see this as a "beginner's" guild. If someone wants to be a part of this group, but has never actually worked (or maybe even attended) a faire, that is fine by me. We work together as a family, and will mentor those that need or request help.
Requirements/Rules:
- We PRETEND to be trouble. I have a 3-strikes rule. If I find out that someone is causing trouble, we will sit down and have a little talk. The second time, you will be pulled from our current faire, regardless of how many weeks/days/hours/minutes are left. The third time, you will be pulled from the guild.
- The only thing that overrides the 3-strikes rule is if management asks that a member is removed from the event before the guild leader(s) reach that decision. They employed us - that makes them the boss(es).
- There is no heavy drinking and certainly no drunkeness on the "job".
- Indecent exposure, violence, and stealing are the three things that will lead to immediate expulsion from the guild. Again, we are pretending to be trouble - please don't actually cause any.
- When the guild starts growing, there may be a small fee ($10/year or so), to set aside for things like supplies/equipment for the guild, food and drink for the guild sites, etc. I have not actually decided on this yet, so don't let it hold you back from joining now. When I start thinking it may be necessary, there with be a guild meeting, so everybody can share their opinions and vote on it.
